Tom  Hiscox
Welcome
You have arrived at the online portfolio of Tom Hiscox Photography.  Welcome!
This website presents my work as an enthusiastic photographer.  What began as a longtime interest in the technical aspects of digital photography has grown into my personal challenge to express my creative talents by creating beautiful images on a digital canvas.
I'm especially attracted to railroad art.  It has many challenges photographically to catch the drama and action of a passing train.   You'll find images from today's railroads as well as historical railroads. Other areas of interest include wildlife, landscapes, and more recently night sky photography.  All of these are represented here in this portfolio website.
I shoot both in color visible light and in infrared.  Most of my infrared images I present in monochrome, shooting normally in the higher 720 nm and 850 nm wavelengths.  The contrasts and tones in a monochrome infrared image are beautiful to me.
Personally I am a retired netallurgical engineer having spent 40+ years in the mining and minerals extraction industry.  I had the good fortune to travel all around the world examining and working at mining sites.  This included base metals such as copper, lead, and zinc, precious metals including silver and gold, uranium, and industrial minerals including silica, feldspar, nepheline syenite, and high purity quartz.  It was a GREAT career.
In addition to my photographic art, my interests include volunteering at the Cumbres and Toltec Railroad straddling New Mexico and Colorado in the preservation and restoration of the historic steam powered railroad.
Please enjoy my art and any comments would be welcome.
